OIC secretary general to hold news conference following meeting with Sec. Clinton
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday, October 2, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), will hold a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to discuss issues related to Iran, Afghanistan and the Arab peace initiative. Prof. Ihsanoglu will also report on his meeting earlier in the day with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and may announce the appointment of a new special U.S. envoy to the OIC.

The OIC is the second largest world inter-governmental organization after the United Nations and serves as the collective voice of the Muslim world. Its membership currently includes 57 Muslim-majority nations.
In 2005, the OIC adopted a ten-year plan to promote tolerance and moderation, modernization, good governance and family values, and human rights in the Muslim world, especially with regard to the rights of children, women and the elderly. The OIC is also working to improve science and technology, education and trade relations.
