A stray dog who lived in one of the roughest parts of the world has found his forever home on American soil this week.Socks grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. Now, he will be living with animal advocate Debra Cohn and her family in Florida.Cohn first heard about Socks from Adam Schank, a K-9 handler with the AMK9 Department of State. Schank met Socks in Iraq. As a stray, he had been shot, abused and neglected.Schank began reaching out to animal advocates to find a home for him in the United States. After several months, Furry Friends in Jupiter, with the support of several other organizations, made it happen. Once abused and alone, now Socks has a family to shower him with love and affection.Furry Friends works to connect military members and veterans with service animals. Debra Cohn said Socks will repay the organization that helped save him by fulfilling its mission.“Socks is going to go on and be the voice for all of our armed forces, our service men, our service women and our K-9s.
