Newsweek published an article on Thursday claiming that there is still a chance that Hillary Clinton can become president.

“Hillary Clinton could still become president if Russia probe finds conspiracy evidence,” the headline of the piece reads.

The claim rests on a Medium article from a Harvard Law professor Lawrence Lessig, who outlines a hypothetical scenario of Clinton becoming president in the event that the Russia investigation finds evidence of a conspiracy.

Lessig claims that Trump and Pence would both either have to resign or be impeached. Speaker Paul Ryan would then become president, but Lessig argues that he should give the seat to Clinton since there is no “mechanism for correcting the criminal results of the previous election.”

Lessig admitted to Newsweek that it’s an incredibly unlikely scenario, making Newsweek’s decision to publish the piece somewhat puzzling.

“This is one way it could happen,” Lessig said. “But that’s very different from saying I think it will happen, or should happen, or [that] the evidence is there for it to happen.”

“I don’t feel that we’ve seen anything that increases that probability,” he added.
