Donlin Gold LLC has appointed mining veteran Todd Dahlman as its new general manager, positioning him to help guide development of one of the world’s largest untapped gold deposits in western Alaska.
Dahlman brings nearly 40 years of mining experience, the company stated in a news release, with Dahlman most recently serving as vice president and deputy general manager at Kinross Gold’s Fort Knox Mine near Fairbanks and at Kinross’ Tasiast operation in Mauritania. His career spans operations across North America, Africa and Asia.
Donlin Gold officials praised Dahlman’s expertise in operational startups, team leadership and community engagement.
“We are sure Todd will continue to drive the project up the value chain, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence,” said Christine Keener, chief operating officer for Barrick Gold Corporation’s North America operations.
Dahlman succeeds Enric Fernandez, Donlin Gold’s permitting and environmental manager, who served as interim general manager during the leadership transition. Company chairman Greg Lang credited Fernandez with maintaining project stability and progress.
A Butte, Montana, native, Dahlman holds a mining engineering degree from Montana Technological University, an executive MBA from the University of Utah, and recently completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Donlin Gold, jointly owned by NOVAGOLD Resources Alaska Inc. and Barrick Gold U.S. Inc., is working with Alaska Native landowners, including The Kuskokwim Corporation and Calista Corporation, to develop the project near Donlin Creek in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
