Central African Republic – Monkeypox Outbreak (DG ECHO, OCHA, Ministry of Health) (ECHO Daily Flash of 20 March 2018)

An outbreak of Monkeypox has been ongoing in the sanitary district of Bambari, Ouaka region, since 2 March 2018. The eight cases confirmed as of 17 March come from the Ippy area. The Ministry of Health has issued an official epidemic declaration. In conjunction with humanitarian partners, it has put in place a set-up to control the epidemics, including surveillance, treatment in isolation and awareness-raising among local communities. Outbreaks of Monkeypox have already occurred in several other regions of the country in previous years.
