Ray McKay issues statement on Senator Whitehouse and Ethics Reform
"I believe in ethics for our judges at all levels and that includes Supreme Court Justices. However, it's hard to trust a Senator who won't submit to his own ethics review in light of accusations of his own questionable stock trades. As Rhode Island's next United States Senator, I look forward to holding our judges and elected officials accountable, including myself. To me, it doesn't matter which party they belong to either. Rhode Islanders deserve a Senator who will practice what he preaches, instead of grandstanding," said McKay.
"Over Memorial Day Weekend, rather than honoring our military heroes, Senator Whitehouse went on Meet The Press to talk about ethics problems with the Supreme Court. Not only did he fail to honor the members of our military who paid the ultimate price and their families, he skirted the issue of his own questionable stock trades, which have received coverage in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. If Senator Whitehouse truly cares about ethics, he should lead by example by first submitting himself before the ethics committee and after that, talk about ethics problems at the Supreme Court."
Whitehouse's opponent, Ray McKay closed is statements by saying, "Rhode Islanders deserve a Senator who will practice what he preaches and act honorably and ethically. I look forward to being that kind of Senator for Rhode Island."
