Post-COVID, Women need R.I.S.E. Women’s Leadership Conference – Mary T. O’Sullivan

by Mary T. O’Sullivan, MSOL

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness”. Oprah Winfrey

Are you a woman still looking for more ways to grow? Are you working harder than before now due to the challenges of COVID? Ever since I started asking professional women about work back in 2014, an interesting pattern seemed to emerge. And here’s the irony, women are working just as hard as men, sometimes, even harder, and yet many inequities between the sexes continue to persist. We women needs those workarounds that we can learn and share so you can compete on a level playing field.

The words “female empowerment” and “gender equality” are familiar, and yet, now these ideas are threatened. We can’t allow them to become elusive words or tired cliches. Still, making those concepts a true reality is critical to women moving ahead in their businesses and careers.

What escapes many of us is authentic power, real authority, a voice, a seat at the table. We’re feeling invisible, outnumbered and in many cases, left behind.

1. The impact of COVID has forever changed our work and home lives because we’re doing more housework and childcare with less support. And with such constraints on our time, we may even drop out of the workforce altogether.

2. Women are reluctant to ask for more flexible hours due to fear of reprisals, less growth opportunity, and fewer major assignments, and resentment from fellow “in office” employees.

3. Women encounter push back, even from female managers, regarding regular remote or hybrid work.

4. Many women still feel uncomfortable asking for raises and promotions, and even think it’s impolite or selfish to ask!

5. Women seem to dislike regular networking.

6. Women are more likely to worry about being liked on the job and well perceived.

7. Women don’t always support each other.

How can this be reversed? How it can be turned around?

I’ve been asking women these same questions. And believe it or not, there are some very wise women out there that can help us all along. Where do we find these ladies of wisdom?

Have you heard about the Realizing Inspiration & Sustaining Excellence (R.I.S.E.) Women’s Leadership Conference coming to the Rhode Island Convention Center on November 4th?

Starting at 6:30AM, the conference will be hosting several brilliant, forward-facing women who’ve been there done that, and know what they’re talking about.

R.I.S.E. principals are based on creating a world “free of adverse social norms that impact all women and girls in the workforce. The RISE Women’s Leadership Conference brings discussion, thought leadership and connectedness across a diverse and broad range of phenomenal women. The experience creates a safe space for women and girls to engage in

inspirational and courageous conversations surrounding the nuances of gender parity, social-economic, and workplace equality.”

This conference is a can’t miss opportunity for all women to open dialog about what we know is holding us back. Women make so many sacrifices to maintain work, family, friends, and spirit. Now it’s the time for women to learn how to change the mindset and embrace a new cultural norm for women’s roles.

Stop by my table at the R.I.S.E. Women’s Leadership Conference and say hello. Register for a complimentary 30-minute coaching consult and you can purchase my new book at a conference only discount. I’ll have lots of signs posted so you won’t miss my display. I can’t wait to see you there!

Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world” – Hillary Clinton
